John Beck
Choir Director/Musician and Tech Support
Lifelong Bethany member John Beck has been serving as our Senior Choir Director since 1994. Recently, he’s also taken on a role as a worship musician, working with his wife, Kim, to prepare music for our 10:45 a.m. Sunday services. He also serves on the Worship and Music Committee, assists with the church’s sound system, and previously directed the Senior Handbell Choir for over 30 years. John says he’s blessed to be a part of the “great cloud of witnesses” by using his God-given gifts to serve in the church.
John grew up in Escanaba and attended Northern Michigan University for music education. He soon returned to Escanaba and became the choir director at Escanaba High School, a position he held for 41 years before retiring in May 2019. Despite his retirement, he stays busy with various musical endeavors, including his bands ToHuBoHu, Kind of Blues, and Mardi Rouge.
John lives in Escanaba with his wife, Kim, and his children, Jordan and Kyra. Outside of his work at Bethany, he’s spent much of his retirement writing and arranging music, brewing beer, announcing sports games at Escanaba High School, and listening to albums with his kids.
